Habanero
The Habanero spawned from the Grinder series. I originally made some adjustments for a couple team riders (Brett Simpson and Courtney Conlogue) who needed a small wave, contest high performance shortboard. I call this an ‘active’ grovellor. It has more surface area in the outline to keep up the planing speed in smaller, slower conditions, yet still maintaining a moderate rocker line with a little extra curve in the nose; to keep it free in the steeper sections when they arrive. The nose is slightly pulled in and the tail curve from the slight hip is straightened a bit as well. It comes standard with a ‘straight’ cut swallow tail for a clean and efficient release. A high performance grovellor, that can attack the steeper sections as well. (*this is the shape that Courtney was riding when she took the win at the US Open last year in typical Huntington conditions*) This has been an ‘off the menu’ design for team riders, until I shaped a couple for Noel Salas, now the secret is out! hahaa
